2008 Back-to-School Rallies


Unpacking supply kits at the W.T. Young Center at Transylvania
University.

About 30 volunteers helped us get the school supplies into our operations center at Transylvania.

It took a few hours to get all the kits and backpacks into the operations center.

The Dunbar football team helped out with some of the heavy lifting.

The kits and backpacks had to be distributed among the 16 different neighborhoods that were participating in the rallies.

Volunteers placed information from LFUCG's Department of Environmental Quality in the backpacks.


Mayor Jim Newberry talked about the importance of children being prepared for school.

American Founders Bank presented a $10,000 check towards the purchase of the school supply kits.

Cliff Feltham with KU showed off one of the backpacks they had purchased for the rallies. KU bought all 6,000 backpacks.

Superintendent Stu Silberman thanked the community for supporting children with needed school supplies.

Supplies are packed up to go to each individual rally.



The Dunbar football team and other community volunteers worked hard to get the supplies to the right locations.

6,000 elementary school supply kits & backpacks were given out at 16 neighborhoods.

Another 2,000 middle and high school kits & backpacks were also distributed among the rallies.
