WHAT WE DO

Training Consortium

The training consortium evolved out of the Training and Professional Development Action Team. The Team found that by sharing local expertise and training resources, providers of human services could tool each other to better serve people in our community. The goal of the consortium is to identify local training needs and resources and then provide a mechanism to share those resources.

While seminars are often conducted based on immediate, short-term suggestions, the training consortium believes that training is more effective through a planned, targeted approach. Through focus groups and surveys of case managers, “front-line” workers, neighborhood partners, agency executives and other parties, the consortium identified three key training needs:

  • Professional and Personal Development
  • Grassroots Leadership
  • Cultural Awareness

Examples of trainings offered include the following:

  • KCTCS Partnership
  • Serving Mexican immigrants and immigration law
  • Family Group Decision Making
  • Social Security
  • A seven-week pilot for Everyone A Leader
  • A three-day conference on culturally-responsive practices
